I had an incredible experience at the Black Art/Ist residency at the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology in April 2023. I spent two weeks writing, organizing, and defining the libretto for One Death in Seven Doorways. Nestled in the woods, walking distance from the water and ocean, embracing the weather as it came, I sat in silence and listened—my favorite thing to do as an artist. I wrote what I heard. I wrote and listened, listened and wrote. It was one of the most satisfying times of my life. I woke up every day in the life I want. That spirit of pure creation is infused in every moment of this work. I know the audience will feel it. —Licity
